Distant Closeness, a collaborative Hazy IPA, presents a vibrant sensory tapestry defined by its specialized hop trio. Citra leads with an intense, bright citrus charge, while NZ Cascade contributes layered notes of succulent mango and sun-ripened stone fruits. Southern Cross provides a distinctive foundational dankness and a whisper of pleasant grassiness that grounds the tropical sweetness. The malt profile remains understated, offering a soft, bready cushion that supports the high-intensity hop expression. With its lush, pillowy texture and integrated 7.3% ABV, this beer exemplifies the juicy, fruit-forward intent of the style, delivering a complex, aromatic journey from first sniff to its smooth, rounded finish.
Appearance. 4–7 SRM; opaque golden-orange with a luminous, hazy glow; thick, rocky white head with excellent retention and dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant aromas of grapefruit, lime zest, and tangerine from Citra, complemented by juicy mango and ripe peach. Background notes feature a resinous dankness and a hint of fresh-cut grass, supported by a clean, bready malt character and subtle fruity esters.
Taste. High tropical and stone fruit flavors, specifically mango and apricot, transitioning into a bold citrus profile of orange and pomelo. The bitterness is moderate but soft, balancing an off-dry bready malt base. Mid-palate reveals resinous dankness and herbal notes, leading to a smooth, juicy finish with lingering citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full, pillowy body with a soft, rounded texture. Moderate carbonation. Very smooth without astringency or hop harshness. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
