English Brown 5 º 22 IBU
Exulans Brown Ale is a malt-focused expression of the American Brown Ale style, characterized by its deep mahogany color and inviting warmth. The sensory profile is led by a complex malt backbone, featuring prominent layers of rich caramel, toasted bread, and distinct biscuit nuances. Unlike more aggressive interpretations, this version highlights a restrained hop presence with very low hop flavor, allowing the interplay of sweetness and toasted grain to take center stage. Subtle notes of cocoa and nuts emerge on the mid-palate, leading to a balanced, medium-dry finish that remains clean and approachable at its moderate strength.
Appearance. Medium to dark brown with mahogany highlights (22–30 SRM). Clear with a moderate, persistent off-white to light tan head that leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate malty-rich aroma featuring deep caramel, toasted biscuit, and a hint of nutty sweetness. Hop aroma is very low to absent. Very low fruity esters; no harsh roasted or acrid notes.
Taste. Initial impression is malty-sweet with flavors of caramel and baked biscuit. Toasted malt complexity develops in the mid-palate with light cocoa notes. Hop bitterness is moderate but restrained, providing just enough balance against the malt. Hop flavor is very low. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of toasted grain and soft caramel.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift. Minimal alcohol warmth consistent with its strength; no astringency.
