Luci Rosse, a collaboration between Evoqe and Contromano, reimagines the classic Berliner Weisse through the addition of vibrant pomegranate. The profile centers on a sharp, clean lactic sourness that intertwines with the tart, tannic snap of fresh pomegranate seeds. A foundation of Pilsner malt and wheat provides a delicate sourdough and raw bread dough character, supporting the acidity without adding weight. Effervescent and refreshing, this interpretation balances the style's signature crispness with nuanced red fruit layers and a faint floral ester profile. It finishes bone-dry, leaving a lingering impression of tart berries and refreshing grainy sweetness.
Appearance. A delicate rose-pink to light ruby hue with a slight, hazy shimmer. It is topped by a frothy, white-to-pale-pink head that dissipates quickly, leaving minimal lacing, consistent with high acidity and effervescence.
Aroma. High intensity of clean lactic sourness and sharp pomegranate tartness. The aroma leads with notes of lemon zest, underripe red berries, and a distinct sourdough-like wheat character. No hop aroma is present, allowing the fruity pomegranate and light floral esters to dominate the bouquet.
Taste. Initial impression is a brisk, puckering lactic acidity followed immediately by the tangy flavor of pomegranate. A light, grainy wheat and doughy malt backbone provides structure. Hop bitterness is undetectable, with the tartness providing the primary balance. The finish is exceptionally dry and clean, with a lingering tartness reminiscent of cranberry or red currant.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied but with a subtle bready soft texture from the wheat. Very high carbonation creates a lively, prickly sensation on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is negligible at 4.5 percent, and the acidity provides a crisp, refreshing snap with no astringency.
