This massive bourbon barrel-aged blend presents a complex union of barleywine, imperial stout, and the toasted depth of Munich malt found in its munichwine components. The aroma is saturated with 1792 and Buffalo Trace bourbon, releasing waves of vanillin, charred oak, and dark fruit esters reminiscent of figs and raisins. On the palate, the 14.2% ABV provides a significant but velvety warmth, supporting layers of toffee, dark chocolate, and Garrison Bros. bourbon-soaked wood. This British Strong Ale interpretation remains remarkably smooth despite its intensity, finishing with a lingering, spirit-forward sweetness balanced by subtle oak tannins and a rich, chewy texture.
Appearance. Very dark reddish-brown to nearly opaque; low, creamy tan-colored head with moderate retention that leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with complex malty-sweet notes of toffee, caramel, and nuts. Strong bourbon presence with vanilla, coconut, and toasted oak. Moderate fruity esters of dried dark fruits like plums and dates. No perceptible hop aroma.
Taste. Rich, medium-to-high malt character featuring nutty toffee, dark chocolate, and caramel. Significant bourbon and oak flavors provide depth. Moderate bitterness provides balance against the heavy malt sweetness. Finish is long and warming with lingering notes of molasses and dark fruit. Alcohol is evident but well-integrated.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, viscous, and chewy texture. Low to moderate carbonation. Significant alcohol warmth is present. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a slight tannic dryness from the barrel aging.
