Espiga Dark Way
This Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory experience, defined by a complex grain bill featuring Golden Promise, Chocolate Malt, and Carafa Special II. The aroma is dominated by rich cocoa and buttery pastry notes, supported by a subtle, clean bitterness from Galena hops. On the palate, the inclusion of both malted and flaked oats creates an exceptionally silky, unctuous texture. Deep flavors of dark chocolate and roasted grain lead to a slightly sweet, harmonious finish. At 10.5% ABV, a smooth, integrated alcohol warmth develops as the beer breathes, rounding out a robust and sophisticated profile.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black in color. Topped by a creamy, persistent, deep tan to light brown head with fine lacing. High viscosity is apparent with visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Pronounced notes of bittersweet cocoa, dark chocolate, and toasted brioche. Background hints of caramel and coffee derived from Carafa Special II and Chocolate malts. Esters are low, suggesting subtle dark fruit. Hop aroma from Galena is very low and clean.
Taste. Rich and multifaceted. Initial flavors of dark chocolate and roasted grain are supported by the bready sweetness of Golden Promise malt. Moderate bitterness from Galena hops balances the residual malt sweetness. The mid-palate features pastry-like complexity and cocoa. The finish is slightly sweet and long-lasting, with a lingering roasty aftertaste and gentle warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full body with a thick, unctuous, and velvety texture provided by flaked and malted oats. Carbonation is low to moderate with fine bubbles. Noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh.
