This collaborative American IPA showcases a vibrant single-hop expression of Amarillo. It pours a deep orange with a characteristic hazy turbidity and a resilient, creamy head. The sensory profile is dominated by the hop’s signature bright citrus and distinctive herbal notes, supported by a rich, grainy base of Maris Otter malt. The inclusion of malted oats, flaked oats, and flaked wheat creates a luxurious, silky mouthfeel and a pronounced creaminess that rounds out the firm bitterness. A subtle alcohol warmth emerges on the finish, complementing the complex hop oils in this modern, double-dry-hopped interpretation of the style.
Appearance. Deep orange color (SRM 9-11) with a notable turbidity and slight haze. Features a thick, off-white, creamy head with excellent persistence and lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent orange zest, grapefruit, and a distinct spicy, herbal quality from the Amarillo hops. A low, clean, grainy malt sweetness from Maris Otter provides a supportive background; fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward with high-intensity citrus and herbal hop flavors. Bitterness is medium-high and firm. The malt profile offers clean, bready, and grainy notes from the Maris Otter and flaked grains, providing a balanced-sweet foundation that leads into a medium-dry finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably silky and creamy texture derived from the flaked oats and wheat. Carbonation is moderate. A light, integrated alcohol warmth is present on the swallow.
