This Imperial Stout presents an indulgent, multi-layered profile reminiscent of rocky road ice cream. An intense base of roasted malts provides a decadent foundation of hot chocolate and dark brownie, amplified by a bespoke Swiss Chocolate Almond roast coffee. The aroma is dominated by toasted almonds and the confectionery sweetness of marshmallow, which carries through to the palate. While inherently rich and viscous, the addition of coffee provides a necessary counterpoint to the sugary marshmallow notes, ensuring a balanced, albeit dessert-like finish. Subtle dark fruit esters and a steady alcohol warmth complete this luxurious, velvety experience.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque. Pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan head that leaves persistent lacing. High viscosity is visible through prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and freshly roasted coffee. Pronounced toasted almond notes pair with a sugary, vanilla-like marshmallow sweetness. Low dark fruit esters of prune and raisin are present, alongside a clean, noticeable alcohol warmth.
Taste. The initial impression is a massive wave of dark chocolate and fudge-like malt. Mid-palate reveals distinct nutty almond and sweet marshmallow flavors. A moderate bitterness from the coffee and roasted grains balances the sweetness, leading to a finish that is rich but not cloying. The aftertaste lingers with notes of cocoa and a smooth warmth.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present and well-integrated into the heavy body.
