Imperial IPA 8.2 º
This Double IPA, a collaborative effort between Equilibrium and The Answer, showcases a synergistic approach to modern hopping. Poured a deep, hazy tangerine orange, it immediately radiates high-intensity aromas of tropical pineapple and ripe blueberry. The heavy use of Galaxy and Mosaic hops creates a dense, multi-layered fruit profile that transitions seamlessly into the flavor. Despite its strength, the palate remains remarkably balanced and drinkable, leaning into a soft, pillowy texture typical of Equilibrium’s house character. The finish is clean with a restrained bitterness, allowing the vibrant, essential hop oils of Galaxy and Mosaic to linger without the weight of a traditional barleywine.
Appearance. Deep gold to tangerine orange (7-10 SRM). Opaque with a heavy, uniform haze. Thick, creamy, off-white head with excellent persistence and dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of tropical pineapple, passion fruit, and citrus from the Galaxy, alongside the distinct blueberry and light earthy-dank notes of Mosaic. Low, neutral grainy malt in the background; moderate fruity fermentation esters.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet tropical fruit and berry. Mid-palate reveals a soft, bready malt support. Galaxy provides heavy notes of peach and pineapple while Mosaic adds complexity with dark berry and citrus zest. Bitterness is moderate to firm but smooth, lacking any resinous harshness. Finishes medium-dry with a long, fruity, hop-forward aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy, and lush texture. Moderate carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth. Very low astringency.
