Epic Brewing Company Thunder
Thunder is a punchy American Pale Ale that strikes with a bold, resinous hop character. The trio of US Columbus, US Chinook, and US Mosaic hops delivers a layered sensory experience of sharp grapefruit, deep pine needle, and vibrant tropical stone fruit. At 15 SRM, the beer presents a darker copper hue than typical for the style, supporting the hop intensity with a foundation of toasted bread and light caramel maltiness. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and crisp, leading to a clean, lingering bitterness that echoes the thunderous theme of the Stone Hammer series.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper (15 SRM) with brilliant clarity. A moderately large, creamy off-white head displays excellent retention and leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate-high hop intensity featuring pungent resinous pine and spicy earthiness from US Columbus and US Chinook, complemented by the blueberry and tropical fruit notes of US Mosaic. A supportive, low-to-moderate malt presence provides hints of toasted biscuit and light caramel.
Taste. The initial impression is hop-driven, showcasing grapefruit zest and pine resin followed by subtle stone fruit. Malt flavors of bready crust and soft caramel balance the 35 IBU bitterness without becoming heavy. The fermentation is clean, allowing a dry-to-medium finish where hop oils linger pleasantly without being harsh.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the hop load. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue that enhances drinkability without any alcohol warmth or astringency.
