Alien Future II is an intensely aromatic Gose that transforms the traditional salted wheat ale into a tropical exploration. Highlighting a bold 6.5% ABV, this beer opens with a vibrant, juice-forward profile dominated by sharp Passionfruit and succulent Mango, underscored by the bright citrus zest of Lemon. The addition of raw licorice provides a unique, savory depth that intertwines with the style’s characteristic saltiness, creating a complex sweet-and-savory tension. A lactic tartness provides a refreshing backbone, cutting through the dense fruit purée. It finishes with a lingering, earthy anise note and a crisp, saline snap that invites another sip of this experimental European Sour Ale.
Appearance. Opaque and saturated deep yellow to orange hue (SRM 6-8) due to heavy fruit additions. Features a moderate, frothy white head with fair retention and slight lacing, typical of high-protein wheat bases and fruit adjuncts.
Aroma. High intensity with a bouquet of tropical acidity. Dominant aromas of ripe Passionfruit and pulpy Mango are balanced by a sharp, clean Lemon citrus note. Subtly woven beneath the fruit is a distinct, earthy, and spicy raw licorice character, complemented by a light, doughy wheat malt presence and a faint, clean lactic sourness.
Taste. Immediate, punchy lactic sourness is moderated by a medium-sweet fruit richness. Vibrant Mango and Passionfruit flavors lead, followed by a mid-palate arrival of Lemon tartness and a noticeable, savory saltiness. The raw licorice adds a complex, slightly bitter, and herbal dimension that lingers into the finish. Low bitterness; the acidity and salt provide the primary balance against the fruit sugars.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, notably thicker and more luscious than a traditional Gose, likely due to the higher alcohol content and fruit density. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing effervescence. A slight, mouthwatering tingle from the salt and a very mild alcohol warmth are present.
