Elgood’s Brewery Warrior
Warrior is a quintessential Strong Bitter that balances a rich, heritage malt bill with classic English hop character. A robust base of Pale Ale malt provides biscuity depth, while Amber and Crystal malts contribute layers of toffee and toasted bread. The hop profile is distinctly British, featuring the spicy, cedar-like notes of Challenger, the floral honey of Goldings, and the earthy, grassy soul of Fuggles. These hops provide a firm, well-developed bitterness that offsets the fruity esters produced during fermentation. At 5.5% ABV, it presents a satisfyingly full-flavored experience with a clean, medium-dry finish that celebrates the independent spirit of Elgood's traditional brewing methods.
Appearance. Deep amber to light copper color (12-14 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a moderate, creamy off-white head that shows good retention and leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderately high aroma featuring a complex blend of bready, toasty malt and caramel. The hop character is medium-high with distinct earthy, floral, and slightly spicy notes. Moderate fruity esters suggesting dried orchard fruits are present, with no diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression is of rich, toasted bread and biscuity malt, quickly followed by a moderately high bitterness. Malt flavors of caramel and toffee provide a solid backbone for the earthy and floral hop flavors. The balance is slightly bitter but retains significant malt character. It concludes with a medium-dry finish and a lingering, clean hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a gentle prickle on the tongue. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable but remains subtle and never harsh.
