Elgood’s Brewery Talon presents a classic, malt-forward interpretation of the Imperial Stout style. It offers a sensory profile anchored by a deep chocolate aroma that seamlessly transitions into a palate defined by rich, dark malty depths. Notable hints of liquorice and anise provide complexity, while a robust, full roast character drives the long-lasting aftertaste. Although it sits at a more approachable strength than some examples of the style, it retains the signature velvety presence and harmonious balance between bittersweet roasted grains and subtle dark fruit esters. This is a refined and sophisticated stout that prioritizes a chewy, luscious texture and a clean, lingering finish.
Appearance.Very dark reddish-brown to jet black and completely opaque. It features a well-formed, persistent deep tan head with excellent lacing and visible viscosity.
Aroma.High intensity with prominent bittersweet chocolate and cocoa notes. Moderate roast character suggests coffee and slightly burnt grain, complemented by subtle hints of black liquorice and dark dried fruits such as raisins. Very low earthy hop character and a clean, well-integrated fermentation profile.
Taste.Intense flavors of dark chocolate and roasted grain lead the palate, supported by a rich, bready malt base. Mid-palate notes of liquorice and black currant add complexity. Bitterness is firm and provides a balanced counterpoint to the moderate malty sweetness. The finish is fairly dry with a lingering aftertaste of roast, dark chocolate, and a gentle, smooth warmth.
Mouthfeel.Medium-full to full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is moderate, enhancing the creaminess without being prickly. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is present in the background.
