This Ordinary Bitter presents a refreshing session experience, balancing traditional British roots with a subtle modern hop lift. The sensory profile is defined by a delicate interplay of cereal and honey-like malt sweetness against a crisp hop presence. Traditional East Kent Goldings (EKG) provide a steady backbone of herbal and resinous notes, while a measured addition of Citra introduces a bright, light citrus nuance. Fermented with an ESB yeast strain, the beer carries a nuanced fruity ester profile that complements the bready malt. It finishes clean and decidedly dry, inviting another sip through its masterful balance of drinkability and character.
Appearance. Pours a clear, brilliant gold (SRM 6-8) with a compact, white head that shows moderate persistence and light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring bready and cereal malt notes with a distinct honey-like sweetness. The hop character is a blend of earthy resin and light floral notes from the East Kent Goldings, topped with a faint citrus zest from the Citra hops. Low to moderate fruity esters from the ESB yeast are present.
Taste. The initial impression is one of balanced bitterness and bready malt. Flavors of honeyed grain and toasted crackers are quickly met by a firm resinous and herbal hop character. The Citra hops contribute a subtle touch of lemon peel. It features a medium bitterness that leads into a dry, crisp finish with a lingering herbal aftertaste.
