This Wild Specialty Beer presents a striking fusion of fruit and spice. Deep blueberry aromas lead the charge, supported by the citrusy, floral lift of Szechuan pepper and a hint of earthy chilli heat. The palate is dominated by a rich, jammy blueberry tartness, characteristic of the smoothie sour approach, balanced by a distinct tingling sensation from the Szechuan peppercorns. A mild, creeping warmth from the chilli adds complexity without overwhelming the clean lactic acidity. The mouthfeel is notably viscous and plush, delivering a vibrant, multidimensional experience that bridges the gap between a refreshing fruit ale and an adventurous spiced tonic.
Appearance. Opaque, deep purple to indigo body with a thick, violet-tinted head that shows moderate retention and leaves significant fruit-pulp lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; pungent aromas of fresh blueberry puree and jam. Secondary notes of floral Szechuan pepper provide a lemony zest, while a subtle underlying capsicum earthiness from the chilli mingles with clean lactic sourness and a faint bread-dough malt base.
Taste. Initial burst of tart, succulent blueberry is immediately followed by a sharp lactic acidity. The mid-palate introduces a unique numbing Szechuan spice and a light, peppery chilli heat that builds slowly. Low hop bitterness; the finish is long and fruit-forward with a lingering spicy tingle and a touch of residual fruit sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Full, creamy, and viscous body reminiscent of a fruit smoothie. Carbonation is moderate to low, providing enough lift to prevent cloying. A notable tingling sensation from the peppers is present, alongside a mild, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
