This West Coast IPA offers a refined sensory experience that bridges traditional bitterness with modern hop complexity. A robust foundation of Pale Ale, Pilsner, and Crystal malts provides a supportive, slightly toasty body for an assertive hop profile. Featuring Cascade, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Idaho 7, the aroma and flavor burst with resinous pine forest notes and zesty tangerine. Distinctive herbal character reminiscent of Earl Grey tea blends with citrus and spice, leading to a decidedly firm bitter bite. This American IPA balances its full-bodied sweetness with a clean, dryish finish and a lingering, piney aftertaste.
Appearance. Medium gold to light amber in color (8–12 SRM). Displays brilliant clarity with a medium-sized, off-white head that shows excellent persistence and decorative lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by resinous pine, grapefruit, and zesty tangerine. A distinct herbal, bergamot-like spice is present alongside subtle floral notes. Low to medium-low maltiness offers hints of light caramel and clean grain. Fermentation is clean with virtually no esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, refreshing bitterness followed by layers of hop flavor including citrus peel, damp pine, and herbal tea. The malt profile is supportive but secondary, contributing toasted grain and light toffee notes from the Crystal malts. Bitterness is firm and assertive (approx. 65 IBU) but not harsh. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering resinous and citrusy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from hop resins. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its 7.5% ABV, without any astringency.
