Drunken Bros Bryce Ale

Red Ale 9 º 55 IBU
Bryce Ale is a formidable Double Red Ale that elevates the traditional American Amber Ale profile into a more intense sensory experience. This 9% ABV eccentric brew presents a complex interplay between rich caramel malt sweetness and an assertive, resinous hop character designed for enthusiasts. The maturation process using Port wine barrel oak adds sophisticated layers of dried dark fruit, subtle wood tannins, and a vinous depth that permeates the finish. The result is a bold, warming ale where the powerful bitterness is masterfully balanced by the sophisticated influence of fortified wine and seasoned oak, offering an explosion of flavor.
Appearance. SRM 15–18. Deep coppery-red to mahogany in color with high clarity. It supports a moderately large, dense, off-white head with excellent retention and significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Pronounced hop aromas of pine, citrus, and resin dominate the foreground, supported by a rich, moderately-high malt backbone of caramel and toasted biscuit. Distinct secondary notes of oak, light vanilla, and dark plum from the Port barrel maturation add complexity.
Taste. The initial impression is one of powerful malty sweetness and dark caramel, quickly followed by a firm, moderately-high hop bitterness. Hop flavors mirror the aroma with notes of citrus peel and resin. The middle palate reveals subtle wood and Port wine character, contributing flavors of raisin and oak. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering aftertaste of refined wood and fortified wine.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, complemented by a light touch of wood-derived tannin and no harsh astringency.
