Dougall’s IPA 5 is a vibrantly hop-forward American IPA that showcases a masterful balance of modern brightness and classic structure. The use of Extra Pale malt creates a lean, crackery, and remarkably clean foundation, allowing the specific hop nuances to take center stage. Ahtanum hops provide a prominent floral and grapefruit-led citrus bouquet, while Horizon hops contribute a subtle herbal and spicy depth that adds complexity to the aroma. At 6% ABV, the beer is exceptionally well-integrated, delivering a firm but smooth bitterness that leads into a crisp, dry finish, perfectly embodying the refreshing intensity expected of the style.

Appearance. Medium gold to light amber (6-8 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High hop intensity featuring distinct floral notes, grapefruit citrus, and a light herbal spice. Low, clean, grainy-sweet malt character from the Extra Pale base provides a neutral background. Fermentation profile is clean with no significant esters.

Taste. Initial impression is decidedly hoppy with flavors of citrus rind and dried flowers. The malt flavor is low, presenting as fresh white bread or crackers. Bitterness is firm and medium-high, providing a sharp but clean counterpoint to the lean malt. The finish is dry and lingering with a hoppy, resinous aftertaste and no harshness.
