This Double IPA strikes a delicate balance between high-intensity hop impact and approachable drinkability. The aroma is dominated by a vibrant bouquet of lemon, grapefruit, and lime courtesy of Citra hops, paired with the distinctive tropical punch of passion fruit from New Zealand Riwaka. On the palate, a soft, pillowy body derived from the addition of oats and wheat provides a smooth foundation for the assertive bitterness. Despite its 7.5% strength, it remains refreshingly dry, finishing with a lingering resinous citrus note. It successfully navigates the line between a crushable pale ale and a powerful, modern imperial-style brew.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (SRM 6-9) with a moderate-sized, persistent white head and good lacing. Displays a slight haze characteristic of heavy dry-hopping and the use of wheat and oats.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent lemon zest, grapefruit, and lime from Citra, alongside pungent passion fruit from Riwaka. Supportive background malt is neutral and grainy with a soft bready note; fermentation profile is clean and neutral.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of lime, grapefruit, and tropical passion fruit. Low, supportive malt character with soft bready notes. Bitterness is moderately high and firm but lacks harshness. Finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste of citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture enhanced by oats and wheat. Carbonation is medium-high. Features a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth and no hop-derived astringency.
