Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Topped with a large, persistent, light brown head that leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a prominent toasted coconut and cocoa nib character. Moderate to strong roasted malt aroma with notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Low resiny hop notes are present but take a backseat to the creamy lactose and chocolate malt sweetness.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and chocolatey with a distinct coconut sweetness. Mid-palate reveals moderate roasted grain flavors of bittersweet chocolate and coffee beans. Medium-high bitterness provides balance against the sweet lactose. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of cacao and toasted coconut.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a very silky, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Low roast-derived astringency.
