Blistering Barnacles is a vibrant Saison that captures the rustic complexity of traditional Belgian farmhouse brewing. A pale Wheat and Vienna malt base provides a smooth, grainy foundation with a hint of Caramel malt sweetness, balanced by the firm bitterness of Noble hops. A blend of three Belgian yeast strains drives the sensory profile, yielding layers of peppery spice and bright citrus esters. These fermentation notes are further enhanced by the traditional addition of coriander and orange peel, resulting in a crisp, highly attenuated ale that finishes bone-dry and effervescent, offering a refreshing yet sophisticated sensory journey to the sea of Belgian tradition.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (SRM 6-9) with a slight haze from the wheat and unfiltered nature. Topped with a long-lasting, dense, rocky white head that leaves significant Belgian lacing.
Aroma. High aromatic intensity featuring a complex blend of fruity esters and spicy phenols. Notes of orange zest, pome fruit, and black pepper dominate, supported by a subtle floral Noble hop character and a light, grainy wheat malt presence. Hints of coriander and citrus peel are well-integrated.
Taste. Initial impression is crisp and dry. Malt flavors are low to moderate, showcasing grainy wheat and a touch of bready Vienna toastiness. Hop flavor is moderate with spicy and earthy qualities. The yeast character provides a firm peppery spice and citrus zest, complemented by coriander and orange peel additions. Finishes very dry with a lingering, spicy bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with very high, effervescent carbonation. Features a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth at 6.3% ABV. Smooth yet crisp, with no astringency.
