Double Vision Brewing Bear Hug
IPA - India Pale Ale 5.8 º
Bear Hug is a vibrant American IPA that celebrates New Zealand’s hop bounty. The sensory experience is led by a bright mojito profile of fresh lime and mint, courtesy of Motueka, layered with the tropical fruit and pine notes of Kohatu and Cascade. These hops deliver a punchy grapefruit zest that dominates the mid-palate. A clean foundation of Pilsner malt and a touch of wheat provides a soft, bready structural support without distracting from the hop intensity. It finishes dry and crisp, offering a refreshing citrus-forward character that highlights the unique terroir of Aotearoa with every sip.
Appearance. Color is medium gold (SRM 6-8). It displays a medium-sized, white head with good persistence and light lacing. Clarity is clear with a very slight haze from the wheat addition.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring prominent notes of lime zest, crushed mint, and tropical pineapple. A secondary wave of grapefruit and resinous pine follows. Low, clean, bready maltiness provides a subtle backdrop. Fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a citrus and tropical fruit explosion. High hop flavor mirrors the aroma with lime, mojito-like mint, and grapefruit. Bitterness is firm and assertive, balanced by a light, grainy pilsner malt sweetness. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering piney and zesty aftertaste. Clean fermentation profile allows the hops to remain the focus.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture from the wheat. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. No noticeable alcohol warmth and zero astringency.
