Double A Brewing Geuzelique

Other Styles 8 º 17 IBU
Geuzelique presents a complex marriage of wild fermentation and botanical infusion. Aged for one year in French red wine oak barrels, this Brett Beer radiates a sophisticated vinous character. The sensory experience is defined by the unique, peppery, and herbal presence of basil leaves, which interplays with the funky, earthy Brettanomyces profile. Expect deep stone fruit esters and a hint of barnyard complexity from the extended aging. The red wine barrel influence provides subtle tannins and a berry-like depth, while the 8% ABV imparts a gentle warmth. Highly attenuated and drier than the base style suggests, it finishes with a crisp, herbal elegance and a lingering oak-driven structure.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper (12-16 SRM) with a slight haze. A thin, off-white head with moderate retention and light lacing, characteristic of barrel-aged wild fermentations.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by herbal basil and spicy French oak. Distinct Brettanomyces funk—wet hay and earthy leather—intertwined with red wine esters of cherry and blackcurrant. Low malt presence of toasted bread and no perceptible hop aroma.
Taste. Initial sharp herbal basil notes and a light acidity. The mid-palate reveals red wine tannins, oak vanillin, and dark fruit complexity. Brett character is moderate, leaning toward earthy and smoky notes. Finishes very dry and crisp with a lingering peppery basil and oak astringency. Hop bitterness is very low, allowing the barrel and yeast character to lead.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body, highly attenuated and crisp. Moderate carbonation provides a lively mouth-coating prickle. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth. Slight tannin-driven astringency from the French oak.
