This English Barley Wine is a massive, barrel-aged expression defined by its incredible 17.6% ABV and two-year maturation in Oloroso casks. It delivers an intense sensory experience of deep burnt sugar and concentrated hedgerow fruit, reminiscent of a dense fruitcake. The Oloroso barrels impart sophisticated vinous notes of raisins and nuts, layering over a thick, bready malt base. Despite its monstrous strength, the extended aging ensures a smooth, albeit powerful, alcohol warmth. It is a decadent sipper that balances rich malt sweetness with oxidative complexity and a lingering, luxurious finish of dark fruit and fortified wine character.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown with brilliant ruby highlights. The beer is clear but appears highly viscous with visible legs on the glass. It carries a small, off-white to tan head with low retention.

Aroma. High intensity of rich, dark burnt sugar and toffee. Prominent dark fruit esters including plum, prune, and blackberry (hedgerow fruit). Significant Oloroso barrel character adds nutty, sherry-like oxidation and vinous complexity. Alcohol is noticeable but soft and well-integrated. Hop aroma is negligible.

Taste. Initial impression is an intense, multi-layered malty sweetness featuring molasses, dark caramel, and biscuit. Deep flavors of dried hedgerow fruit and raisins are pronounced. The Oloroso aging contributes nutty and woody depth. Bitterness is moderate-low, providing just enough structure to balance the massive malt. The finish is long and warming, moving from sweet fruit to a moderately dry, vinous aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a viscous, velvety texture. Carbonation is low. Significant smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, reflecting the extreme ABV without being harsh or sharp.
