Foreign Extra Stout 8.9 º
This sophisticated Foreign Extra Stout offers a complex interplay between robust roasted malts and the luxurious influence of Ximenez Spinola Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels. The deep black pour releases high-intensity aromas of dark chocolate and espresso, interwoven with rich notes of raisin and sun-dried fig from the maturation. On the palate, a smooth yet firm roasted grain character is elevated by the vinous, woody depth of Irish single malt whiskey casks. Despite the high alcohol content, the finish remains classically dry, balancing lingering cocoa bitterness with nuanced molasses and oak-driven vanilla provided by the six-month barrel aging process.
Appearance. Opaque, deep black (40 SRM). Topped with a thick, creamy tan head featuring excellent retention and heavy lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast, reminiscent of dark chocolate and espresso. Strong dried fruit character of raisins and figs from the sherry barrels. Moderate vinous aromatics and a subtle, clean single malt whiskey warmth. Low earthy hop presence.
Taste. Moderate to high roast character including bittersweet chocolate and burnt grain without harshness. Prominent dark fruit esters and molasses. Medium-high bitterness leads to a moderately dry finish. Subtle oak and vanilla notes emerge in the aftertaste, complemented by a lingering cocoa profile.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a smooth, creamy texture. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth from the 8.9% ABV. Moderate carbonation provides a clean mouth-coating sensation.
