Zeus 2020 presents a sophisticated marriage of traditional brewing and viticulture. This Italian Grape Ale features a vibrant blend of fresh Bordo and Isabel grapes, imparting deep red fruit dimensions and a vinous complexity. Aged for six months in tanks and further refined in the bottle, it displays a delicate wild character with hints of earthy funk from spontaneous fermentation influences. The sensory experience is defined by bright acidity and a dry, elegant finish, reflecting its heritage as an award-winning wild beer. Rich notes of strawberry and dark cherry from the grape varieties harmonize with a restrained malt backbone, creating a potent yet graceful profile.
Appearance. Deep ruby to garnet hue (18-25 SRM) owing to the red grape varieties. Topped by a pinkish-white, fine-beaded head with moderate to low retention and light lacing. Generally clear, though a faint, natural haze may be present.
Aroma. High intensity with prominent vinous character. Aromas of ripe red grapes, dark cherries, and wild strawberries dominate. Subtle wild nuances of wet hay, earthy funk, and a light leathery note emerge from the long maturation. Malt is low and neutral; hop aroma is absent.
Taste. Initial impact of tart red fruit and grape must. Flavors of Isabel and Bordo grapes provide a wine-like depth, complemented by a light, bready malt support. Bitterness is very low, allowing a crisp, lactic acidity to provide balance. The finish is notably dry and clean with lingering notes of grape skin and a gentle wild funk.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that enhances the aromatic lift and adds a refreshing spritz. A light, pleasant tartness increases the perception of dryness. At 7.5% ABV, a well-integrated, subtle alcoholic warmth is present but remains smooth.
