This Sweet Stout reinterprets the traditional style with a vibrant, aromatic profile reminiscent of a chai latte. A foundational roastiness provides a coffee-and-cream backbone, softened by the addition of milk sugar for a lush, velvety texture. Distinctive additions of cardamom lend bright citrus and herbal top notes, while peppercorn introduces a subtle, warming spiciness that cuts through the residual sweetness. The balance is expertly handled, allowing the dark malts to provide chocolate and espresso depths without becoming burnt. It is an approachable, full-bodied ale that merges traditional British stout characteristics with a complex, spiced bouquet.
Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony to black (35–40 SRM) with a thick, persistent, creamy tan head that leaves fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate-high intensity featuring dark roasted coffee and milk chocolate notes. Prominent herbal and citrus aromas from cardamom are balanced by a subtle, earthy peppercorn spice. A distinct cream-like sweetness persists, with very low fruity esters and negligible hop aroma.
Taste. Dominant flavors of sweetened espresso and milk chocolate are complemented by the exotic, herbal zest of cardamom.
