Deschutes Brewery Handup IPA
Deschutes Brewery’s Handup IPA delivers a textbook West Coast IPA experience, showcasing a bright, hop-forward profile built upon an exceptionally clean base. Vivid aromas of fresh grapefruit peel, resinous pine, and subtle tropical undertones dominate the nose, seamlessly carrying over to the palate. The pale, crackery malt character remains deliberately light, allowing the firm, clean bitterness to assert itself without being harsh. It finishes dry and crisp, leaving a lingering, clean citrus and evergreen hop character that invites another sip. This is a highly drinkable, classic American IPA that honors its Pacific Northwest heritage.
Appearance. Medium gold to light amber with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, persistent, off-white head that leaves generous lacing as it recedes.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent aromas of bright grapefruit, orange zest, and damp pine needles, backed by a very low, clean, grainy-sweet malt profile. No diacetyl or warming alcohol; fermentation is exceptionally clean.
Taste. Intensely hop-forward with an immediate wave of citrus peel and resinous pine flavors, supported by a subtle tropical fruit undertone. Very light, neutral grainy-sweet malt flavor. Bitterness is medium-high to high, clean, and dominant but not harsh. Finishes decidedly dry with a lingering, crisp, hoppy and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a crisp, smooth texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a lively, refreshing bite. No astringency, with a barely perceptible, smooth alcohol warmth.
