War Pigs is an intense and restless Wild Specialty Beer born from a collaboration between Delta Beer and Metalhead. This vibrant 5% sour ale presents a sharp, authentic acidity that commands attention, balanced by the softening presence of fresh passion fruit and sour cherry purées. The sensory profile is defined by a bold collision of tropical brightness and tart stone fruit, creating a complex, multilayered experience. Passion fruit provides a zesty, exotic lift, while the sour cherries contribute a deep, vinous quality. Together with the wild fermentation character, these elements produce a sharp yet harmonious beer that pays tribute to its rock-inspired roots with every refreshing, fruit-forward sip.
Appearance. Pours a hazy, glowing reddish-amber with distinct pinkish hues from the fruit additions; the head is light pink, consisting of fine bubbles with moderate to low retention and minimal lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics of sharp lactic acidity and tropical passion fruit, followed closely by the bright, tart scent of sour cherries; secondary notes include a light, earthy funk and a hint of cracker-like malt, with no detectable hop aroma.
Taste. Initial impression is sharply acidic and tart, immediately followed by juicy passion fruit and the tangy, skin-like snap of sour cherries. The malt flavor is very low and neutral, serving only as a base for the fruit. Hop bitterness is negligible, allowing the lactic sourness to provide the primary structure. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering, mouth-watering fruit tartness.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied and brisk with high carbonation that enhances the sharp acidity; very low alcohol warmth and a slight, pleasant fruit-skin astringency that contributes to a refreshing, bone-dry sensation.
