Del Puerto Dunkel Weizen
This Dunkles Weissbier pours a deep, intense mahogany bordering on black, crowned by a thick, persistent off-white foam. The aroma is a sophisticated blend of bready wheat and dark specialty malts, offering distinctive notes of chocolate, toasted hazelnuts, and roasted grains. These darker elements are beautifully balanced by classic yeast-derived esters of ripe banana and a jam-like fruitiness. On the palate, a soft malt sweetness meets a refreshing effervescence, delivering flavors of fruit preserve and bready caramel. The finish is clean and slightly dry, showcasing the smooth integration of its 6% ABV and rich malt complexity.
Appearance. Dark mahogany to nearly black (20–25 SRM). Opaque to very hazy with a deep ruby shine; features a thick, moussy, long-lasting tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Rich bready wheat and toasted malt character presenting notes of milk chocolate and hazelnuts. Prominent yeast esters of ripe banana and fruit preserves are balanced by a subtle spicy clove phenol. Low herbal hop aroma.
Taste. Initial impression is malty and fruity. Dominant flavors of dark bread crust, toasted nuts, and chocolate. Strong ester profile reminiscent of banana bread and fruit jam. Very low bitterness (~15 IBU). Finishes relatively dry with a lingering bready richness and a hint of roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a fluffy, creamy texture. High carbonation provides a prickly, effervescent sensation. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present, well-integrated into the malt backbone.
