This Imperial Stout presents an unadulterated exploration of dark grain artistry, delivering a profile defined by purity and depth. Deeply concentrated flavors of bittersweet chocolate and freshly roasted coffee beans emerge solely from the complex malt bill, which incorporates oat flakes and wheat malt for a luxurious, velvet-like texture. Despite its robust strength, the beer is exceptionally well-integrated, eschewing the need for prolonged aging to harmonize its intense character. The sensory experience is dominated by rich, toasted grains and subtle dark-fruit esters, balanced by a firm bitterness that anchors the decadent malt sweetness without the distraction of adjuncts or barrel influences.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a thick, persistent dark tan head with excellent retention and significant lacing. High viscosity is evident through the formation of legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and heavy roasted coffee. Moderate esters suggestive of plums and raisins are present, alongside a light caramel sweetness. Hop aroma is very low, and the alcohol is clean without being sharp or solventy.
Taste. Intense flavors of roasted grain, espresso, and dark chocolate dominate the palate. The maltiness provides a solid foundation of toasted bread and light caramel, supporting a medium-high bitterness. The finish is moderately sweet but transitions into a lingering, dry, roasty aftertaste with a gentle alcoholic warmth. Dark fruit notes provide complex depth in the mid-palate.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture aided by the addition of oats. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any harshness or astringency.
