On the palate, the high-gravity malt base offers a velvety backdrop of dark chocolate and espresso, balanced by a medium-high bitterness that prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying. Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and complex. Dominant notes of freshly roasted Fonte coffee and dark chocolate from the cocoa husk. Significant toasted coconut provides a sweet, nutty layer, while carob adds a distinct dried-fruit and earthy sweetness. Low dark fruit esters of prune and raisin are present alongside a soft, clean alcohol note.
Taste. Intense and multi-layered. Initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate and toasted grain are quickly joined by the creamy, tropical character of toasted coconut. The carob contributes a deep, molasses-like sweetness that complements the roasted acidity of the Fonte coffee. Moderate bitterness provides balance against the rich malt sugars. The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of cocoa and charred wood.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's richness. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present but remains well-integrated without being harsh.
