This Imperial Stout is a decadent collision of two base recipes, amplified into a monumental sensory experience. The aroma is dominated by the fragrance of freshly roasted coffee from the Fonte roastery, intertwined with dark cocoa and the aromatic warmth of nutmeg. On the palate, the inclusion of lactose and vanilla creates a luscious, creamy texture that balances the aggressive roasted grain character. Layers of bittersweet chocolate and spicy nutmeg complexity emerge against a backdrop of dark fruit esters. With its significant alcohol presence and velvety mouthfeel, it offers a harmonious yet intense finish where sweetness and roasted bitterness linger.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, persistent dark tan head that exhibits moderate lacing. High viscosity is evident through visible legs on the glass as the beer is swirled.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Primary notes of freshly ground coffee and bittersweet cocoa are complemented by the distinct, woody spice of nutmeg and sweet vanilla. Subtle dark fruit esters of prune and raisin linger in the background, supported by a rich, bready maltiness and a clean, warming alcohol presence.
Taste. The initial impression is one of rich, creamy sweetness from the lactose and vanilla, which quickly transitions into an intense roasted malt profile. Flavors of dark chocolate and espresso-like coffee are prominent. The nutmeg provides a savory, spicy counterpoint to the sweetness. Bitterness is firm but well-integrated, leading to a long, bittersweet finish with lingering notes of spice and dark grain.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture enhanced by the lactose. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present throughout, providing a comforting sensation without being hot or solventy.
