Deeds Brewing Amphora presents a vibrant and refreshing take on a Straight Sour Beer, drawing inspiration from the brightness of white wine and mixed fruit. The profile is defined by a clean, sharp lactic acidity that provides a crisp backbone, complemented by subtle bready notes from the pale malt grist. Esters of tart apple and lemon meld with the vinous influence of the white wine addition, creating a sophisticated fruit character that remains highly moreish. The result is a refreshing beverage that balances its assertive tartness with a dry, effervescent finish, capturing a modern, fruit-forward sensory experience.
Appearance. Very pale straw (2-3 SRM). Large, dense white head with poor retention typical of the style. Effervescent with a slight haze from fruit additions.
Aroma. High intensity lactic sourness dominates the nose. Subtle crackery malt notes support a moderately fruity profile of lemon, tart apple, and a distinct vinous white wine character. No hop aroma is present; fermentation is clean with no funk.
Taste. Initial impression is sharply tart with a clean lactic sourness. Low bready and grainy malt flavors provide a brief support before being overtaken by citrusy-lemon and vinous fruit notes. Hop bitterness is undetectable, and there is no hop flavor. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering acidity.
Mouthfeel. Light body with high, effervescent carbonation. No alcohol warmth is perceived at 5% ABV. Crisp acidity provides a refreshing, clean mouthfeel with no astringency.
