Hang Five is a quintessential West Coast American IPA that prioritizes hop intensity and high drinkability. This clear, golden ale leads with a punchy aromatic profile driven by a complex blend of Ekuanot, Ahtanum, Citra, Columbus, HBC638, and HBC682. Vibrant layers of citrus zest and resinous pine dominate the senses, reflecting the classic Pacific Northwest influence. The palate is defined by meticulous attenuation, resulting in a very dry body that allows sharp hop bitterness to shine without heavy malt interference. The finish is crisp and clean, highlighting the assertive character of the hops while maintaining a refreshing, lean profile suitable for high drinkability.
Appearance. Medium gold in color with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent white head that leaves distinct lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High hop intensity featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, and resinous pine. Subtle secondary notes of melon and tropical fruit emerge from the experimental hops. Malt presence is low and clean, providing a faint grainy backdrop with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward with high bitterness. Flavors of citrus peel and pine needles are supported by a low, clean bready malt character. Bitterness is firm but not harsh, leading into a very dry, crisp finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Fermentation is clean with negligible yeast character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a refreshing bite. Very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
