Marinus is a vibrant, idiosyncratic collaboration between De Kromme Haring and Schneeeule, reimagining the historical Lichtenhainer style. This pours with a delicate, hazy blush from the addition of cranberries, which provide a sharp, tart sweetness against a backdrop of lean, wheaty malt. The Schneeeule house culture imparts an unapologetically sour, lactic bite that interplays beautifully with a subtle, campfire-like smoke character. Effervescent and crisp, it delivers a complex sensory journey where the smoke acts as a seasoning to the bright fruit and high acidity, finishing bone-dry with a lingering berry zest and a refreshing, clean snap.
Appearance. Hazy, pale gold with a distinct pinkish-ruby tint (SRM 4–6). Features a moderate, white to off-white head with fair retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity lactic sourness leads, followed by a low to moderate clean wood smoke character. Bright, tart cranberry notes are prominent, supported by a grainy, doughy wheat malt character and a hint of earthy funk from the house culture.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean lactic acidity. The middle palate reveals a balanced interplay between tart cranberry fruit and a gentle, savory smoke. Hop bitterness is very low and largely masked by the acidity. Finishes very dry and clean with lingering notes of tart berries and a light, wisp-like smoke aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Light body with a crisp, refreshing texture. High carbonation provides a prickly, effervescent sensation on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is negligible; a very slight, pleasant fruit-skin astringency is present.
