The primary sensory focus remains on a vibrant fruitiness, showcasing layers of tropical fruit and citrus alongside a resinous pine undertone. Its approachable strength offers a gentle warmth that complements the clean, dry finish. Designed for repeat drinking, the balance shifts from a mild, cocoa-like sweetness to a firm, lingering bitterness, embodying a modern Cascadian profile that remains surprisingly sessionable and crisp despite its darker appearance.
Appearance. Dark brown to nearly black in color (SRM 32-38). It features a persistent, moderate-sized light tan head with good lacing. The beer is clear, though its depth of color makes it appear opaque in the glass.
Aroma. High hop intensity characterized by notes of citrus zest, resinous pine, and a hint of tropical stone fruit. The malt character is low but present, offering soft toast and light chocolate notes without any burnt or acrid qualities. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Moderate to high hop flavors of grapefruit, pine, and berry lead the palate. The malt provides a supportive, restrained chocolate and toasted bread flavor that does not clash with the hops. Bitterness is medium-high to high but remains smooth. The finish is dry with a lingering hoppy aftertaste and a light, clean roast grain note.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate, and there is a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth. Free of any harsh astringency from the dark malts.
