This Belgian Golden Strong Ale is a sophisticated exercise in deceptive potency. At 10.5% ABV, it leads with an elegant, expressive bouquet of ripe pear and subtle apple esters, underpinned by a delicate floral hop character. The foundation of Pilsner malt provides a clean, slightly grainy sweetness that is rapidly overtaken by a signature dry attenuation. Effervescent and crisp, it balances peppery yeast phenols with a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth that never veers into solvent territory. The result is a complex, dangerously drinkable beer that masks its considerable strength behind a light, shimmering structure and a clean, spicy finish.
Appearance. Pale gold (4 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Highly effervescent, supporting a massive, rocky, long-lasting white head that leaves intricate lacing as it slowly recedes.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a complex blend of pome fruit esters, specifically pear. Moderate herbal and floral hop notes are present, complemented by a peppery alcohol and phenolic quality over a nearly neutral, slightly grainy-sweet malt base.
Taste. Initial impressions of soft pome fruit and light grain transition into a firm, medium-high bitterness. Flavors of herbal hops and peppery phenols are prominent, leading into a long, remarkably dry finish. The high attenuation ensures no cloying sweetness remains, leaving a clean, spicy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium body that feels significantly lighter than the high gravity suggests. Very high carbonation creates a prickly, effervescent sensation. Noticeable but smooth, sophisticated alcohol warmth with no harshness or astringency.
