This Barrel Aged Stout offers a decadent, breakfast-inspired sensory experience. The aroma leads with high-intensity notes of freshly roasted coffee and sticky maple syrup, interwoven with the charred oak and vanilla of long-term barrel maturation. Deep layers of caramelized Cycle syrup provide a brûlée-like burnt sugar complexity that coats the palate. Dark chocolate and espresso malt flavors balance the intense sweetness of the maple. On the tongue, it is exceptionally viscous and velvety, with a lingering finish of toasted nuts and warm bourbon-soaked wood, making for a robust, dessert-like presentation that highlights the interaction between spirit-forward barrels and rich adjuncts.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, mocha-colored head of fine bubbles with moderate retention; creates oily legs on the glass due to high extract and barrel aging.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant notes of freshly roasted coffee and sweet maple syrup are supported by bourbon-soaked oak, vanilla, and dark chocolate. Deep caramelized sugar and molasses provide a rich malt backbone with negligible yeast esters.
Taste. Initial impression is very sweet, driven by maple and caramelized syrup. Mid-palate features dark chocolate, roasted coffee bitterness, and toasted malt. The barrel character provides layers of vanilla and charred wood. The finish is long and lingering with a balance of sweet maple and a drying, roasted bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Full and viscous body with a thick, syrupy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate-low. Significant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Highly creamy and coating with no perceived astringency.
