Black Joy is a vibrant American IPA that celebrates a bold hop profile featuring El Dorado, Motueka, and Citra. The sensory experience is led by an aromatic explosion of tropical fruit, where El Dorado brings notes of sweet pineapple and Motueka adds a distinctive bright lime zest. Citra complements these with layers of grapefruit and passionfruit. The beer maintains a clean, lean malt profile that highlights the hops' complexity without distraction. It delivers a firm, resinous bitterness and a crisp, dry finish, embodying a modern, refreshing take on the style with a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel.
Appearance. Medium gold with brilliant clarity. Supports a persistent, off-white, medium-sized head with decorative lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical pineapple and citrus lime. El Dorado and Motueka provide a sweet fruit and citrus zest core, while Citra adds grapefruit. Low, clean, bready malt supports the hops.
Taste. Firm hop bitterness balances a clean, grainy malt base. Flavors of pineapple, lime zest, and grapefruit are prominent. The fermentation is clean, leading to a dry, crisp finish with a lingering resinous hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture and medium-high carbonation. Features a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth and no astringency.
