This barrel-aged Imperial Stout presents a profound sensory journey, the result of a twenty-month maturation in premium WoodFord Reserve and Four Roses bourbon barrels. The extended aging orchestrates a harmonious blend where deep layers of dark chocolate and rich caramel meet the expressive character of the wood. The nose is greeted by an evocative bouquet of toasted marshmallow and fragrant vanilla, seamlessly integrated with the spirituous warmth of the bourbon. On the palate, the beer is exceptionally dense and complex, balancing intense roasted malts with a velvety sweetness. It is a masterful expression of time and wood, offering a lingering, luxurious finish.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan head showing moderate retention. High viscosity is apparent through visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich notes of bittersweet chocolate and cocoa are layered with prominent bourbon, toasted oak, and vanilla bean. Moderate esters of dried plums and raisins are present, alongside a sweet marshmallow and caramel malt character.
Taste. Intense initial impression of dark roasted malt and chocolate ganache. The mid-palate reveals complex bourbon-soaked wood, caramel, and marshmallow. Bitterness is moderate to firm but balanced by the massive malt backbone. The finish is long and warming with a lingering roasty and slightly vinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, lacking any harsh or solventy edges.
