This decadent English Barley Wine presents an opulent sensory journey, marrying traditional depth with contemporary adjuncts. A base of rich British Pale Ale and Crystal malts provides a foundation of toffee, dark raisins, and plum, while the 12% ABV delivers a sophisticated, smooth warmth. Infusions of toasted coconut and fragrant vanilla beans create a luxurious, creamy overlay, complemented by the earthy bitterness of cocoa nibs. Despite its strength, the beer maintains a velvet-like elegance. The result is a complex, slow-sipping experience where the vinous character of the aged base beer harmonizes with the indulgent, dessert-inspired elements of chocolate and tropical sweetness.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown (22 SRM) with ruby highlights; clear to slightly hazy due to adjunct oils. Features a low, creamy, off-white head with moderate retention and significant viscosity visible in thick legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a complex blend of rich caramel, toffee, and dark bread crust from the malts. Prominent toasted coconut and sweet vanilla bean aromas are layered over dark fruit esters of figs and dates. Very low earthy hop character is secondary to a soft, vinous alcohol warmth and dark chocolate notes.
Taste. Initial impression of intense malty sweetness and dark chocolate. Mid-palate reveals multi-layered flavors of biscuit, toffee, and toasted coconut, with vanilla providing a creamy depth. Hop bitterness is moderate but perceived as low due to the high residual sugar and 12% ABV. The finish is long and sweet with a lingering aftertaste of cocoa and dark-fruit preserves.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without being hot or harsh. High creaminess from the vanilla and coconut additions.
