Calimax is a vibrant celebration of specialty coffee, showcasing hand-roasted beans from the Acatenango region of Guatemala. This Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer offers a sensory journey through layers of rich espresso and bittersweet chocolate, bolstered by a 7.5% ABV that provides a welcoming warmth. The collaboration with the Caffettin torrefazione is evident in the aromatic profile, where the bright, nutty character of the coffee beans intermingles with deep roasted malts. It is a harmonious and positive expression of craftsmanship, balancing the inherent fruit-forward acidity of high-altitude coffee with a sturdy, cocoa-driven base, resulting in a sophisticated yet highly approachable experience.
Appearance. Deep ebony and nearly opaque (SRM 38-40); crowned by a thick, persistent tan head with fine bubbles and creamy lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of fresh-roasted coffee beans, characterized by notes of toasted hazelnut and dark chocolate. Supporting malt aromas of cocoa and burnt crust are present, while hop character is low to non-existent. Subtle red-berry esters from the Guatemalan coffee beans add complexity.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by rich espresso and dark malt sweetness. The flavor profile develops into toasted nuts and unsweetened chocolate, reflecting the specialty coffee origin. Bitterness is moderate and clean, derived from both hops and roasted grains. The finish is lingering and coffee-forward with a pleasant, dry roasted character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a gentle lift to the palate. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, with very low astringency from the coffee or roasted malts.
