Craig Allan Cuveé d’Oscar is a modern, elevated interpretation of a Dunkles Weissbier, presenting a deep auburn-amber hue. The sensory profile is defined by an unconventional dry-hopping of Nelson Sauvin, which injects vibrant notes of mango and passion fruit into the traditional Bavarian yeast canvas of banana and clove. A sophisticated grain bill featuring Munich, Special B, and Chocolate malt provides a sturdy foundation of toasted bread and subtle dark chocolate. Despite its robust 7.5% ABV, the beer remains remarkably elegant, balancing intense fruity complexity with a dry, clean finish that avoids cloying sweetness while maintaining a luxurious, creamy texture.
Appearance. Dark auburn-amber to mahogany brown (SRM 30). Features a very thick, moussy, and long-lasting light-tan head with excellent lacing. Typically hazy with a visible yeast and wheat protein cloudiness.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex interplay of tropical esters—mango and passion fruit—from Nelson Sauvin hops and classic banana esters. Phenolic clove notes are present alongside rich malt aromas of toasted bread, dark caramel from Special B, and a faint hint of cocoa from Chocolate malt.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit and banana bread. Soft, doughy wheat and toasted Munich malt flavors lead into more complex layers of raisin and dark chocolate. Hop bitterness is low-moderate, providing balance without dominance. The fermentation character is well-defined with spicy clove. Finishes surprisingly dry and clean with a lingering, slightly roasty dark chocolate aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a fluffy, creamy fullness derived from the high wheat content. High carbonation provides an effervescent, lively sparkle. A gentle alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated, with no harshness or astringency.
