Corfu Microbrewery Epos

English Barleywine 7 º 16 IBU
Drawing inspiration from the ancient tales of the Odyssey, Epos presents as a refined English Barley Wine. This ‘silver and golden’ inspired ale pours with a deep amber hue and a modest, off-white head. The aromatic profile is defined by a rich, multi-layered malt backbone featuring notes of toffee and toasted bread, complemented by a moderate dried-fruit character and subtle, earthy English hop notes. On the palate, a complex sweetness of biscuit and caramel balances a firm yet smooth bitterness. Despite its approachable strength for the style at 7% ABV, it maintains a chewy, velvety mouthfeel and a lingering, vinous finish reminiscent of a classic winter sipper.
Appearance. Pours a deep amber to light copper (15–20 SRM) with brilliant clarity and a low, creamy off-white head that exhibits moderate retention. Notable viscosity is visible as legs on the glass surface.
Aroma. High intensity of rich malt, dominated by toffee, toasted biscuit, and light caramel. Pronounced fruity esters suggestive of plum and raisin are present, alongside a soft, tea-like and floral hop character. Alcohol is soft and rounded.
Taste. Initial impression is a complex, medium-high malty sweetness with layers of bread crust and caramel. Mid-palate reveals dark fruit notes and a marmalade-like hop flavor. Bitterness is moderate, providing balance against the malt without being aggressive. The finish is moderately sweet and lingering with a touch of vinous complexity.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is present, providing a comforting sensation without any harshness.
