This formidable Triple IPA, a collaborative effort between CoolHead and Track, radiates an intense sensory profile driven by heavy-handed additions of Nelson and Citra hops. The aroma is a psychedelic collision of crushed gooseberries, white wine grapes, and pungent passionfruit, underpinned by Citra’s signature notes of bright lime zest and sweet mango. Despite its 10% strength, the malt remains supportive and lean, allowing a sharp, resinous bitterness to cut through the velvety texture. It finishes impressively dry, leaving a lingering trail of tropical fruit and cold-pressed citrus oil that beckons another sip of this powerful Double IPA.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper with a moderate haze. Features a dense, creamy, persistent white head that leaves intricate lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop prominence featuring distinctive Nelson notes of gooseberry, white grape, and a hint of passionfruit. Complemented by Citra's layers of tangerine, lime zest, and tropical mango. Malt is clean and neutral, with a very light bready character and a hint of smooth alcohol warmth.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical and citrus fruit. Strong hop flavors of grapefruit, melon, and white wine are supported by a soft, grainy malt backbone. Bitterness is high but well-managed, avoiding harshness. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering, complex hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Moderate carbonation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth provides a pleasant glow without solvent-like notes.
