Double Vermilion is a bold sensory evolution of its predecessor, delivering a powerful Double IPA experience anchored by its striking deep red hue. The beer features a big malty backbone that provides a foundation of toasted bread and light caramel, which artfully balances a high, resinous hop bitterness. The aroma is dominated by intense citrus and pine notes that rise above the rich malt base. This beer offers a smooth, warming mouthfeel and a lingering, clean bitterness that prevents the complex malt profile from becoming overly sweet, maintaining high drinkability despite its 8% ABV strength.
Appearance. Deep amber to brilliant ruby-red in color. Topped with a moderate, persistent, off-white head that provides good lacing; excellent clarity with a warm, reddish glow.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring notes of grapefruit, resinous pine, and subtle stone fruit. A supportive, noticeable malty sweetness provides a background of toasted grain and light caramel. Very low fruity esters with clean fermentation character.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, toasted malt and light caramel sweetness is quickly overtaken by a powerful hop punch. Hop flavors of citrus peel and resin dominate the mid-palate. Bitterness is moderately high and firm, balancing the big malt backbone without being harsh. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering hoppy, bitter aftertaste and clean alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present, devoid of any harsh hop-derived astringency.
