This New England Double IPA presents a vibrant sensory tapestry woven from a trifecta of modern hops. The experimental HBC 1019 hops lead with a multifaceted display of tropical fruits and delicate floral notes, while the classic combination of Citra and Mosaic adds layers of bright grapefruit, tangerine, and succulent stone fruit. A clean, supportive malt base allows these intense hop oils to dominate, resulting in a mesmerizing symphony of flavors. Despite its strength, the experience remains remarkably smooth, offering a dive into a saturated hop spectrum that finishes with a refined, lingering bitterness.
Appearance. Hazy to opaque pale gold (5-7 SRM) with a dense, creamy, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring pronounced notes of passion fruit, honeydew melon, and peach from HBC 1019. Layered with Citra and Mosaic contributions of bright orange zest, mango, and a faint, resinous blueberry undertone. Malt is a neutral, light bready backdrop.
Taste. Immediate impact of tropical fruit punch and citrus oil, mirroring the aroma. HBC 1019 provides unique melon and floral complexity, supported by the punchy mango and lime of Citra and Mosaic. Bitterness is firm but smooth, lacking harshness. The malt provides a soft, grainy foundation that transitions into a medium-dry, hop-saturated finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture typical of the New England style. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but never solventy or hot.
