This powerful Double IPA, a collaboration with Maktoob, delivers an uncompromising sensory experience centered on a juicy hop profile. At 10% ABV, it avoids the heavy malt bulk of a barleywine, instead focusing on an intense array of tropical fruit and citrus aromas. The presence of modern hops provides a punchy, resinous character that leads into a clean, smooth finish. Despite its significant strength, the malt remains supportive and neutral, ensuring the high bitterness is firm but never harsh. It is a straight-talking, modern ale that emphasizes hop saturation and high drinkability with a well-integrated alcohol warmth.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (6–14 SRM) with good clarity, though a slight hop haze is present. Features a moderate-sized, persistent, white head with good lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma with prominent notes of citrus, tropical fruit, and resinous pine. The malt character is low, clean, and neutral-grainy. A light, fruity fermentation profile is present, along with a clean, smooth alcohol note that lacks any solventy edge.
Taste. Initial burst of complex hop flavors including grapefruit and mango, supported by a low, unobtrusive, clean malt character. Bitterness is high but smooth. It finishes dry to medium-dry with a lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste, showcasing a very clean fermentation profile and light alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crispness that cuts through the strength. Features a noticeable but restrained and smooth alcohol warmth without any harsh hop-derived astringency.
