This Bulgarian Imperial Milk Stout presents a decadent sensory experience, merging the robust power of a high-gravity stout with the nuanced elegance of apricot rakia. The base provides a rich foundation of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, softened by the creamy sweetness of lactose. The infusion of oak chips and Danube valley apricot brandy introduces layers of stone fruit intensity and soft vanillin, which meld seamlessly with the dark malt profile. At twelve percent alcohol, it offers a deep, spirituous warmth reminiscent of the traditional Balkan brandy it honors, finishing with a complex harmony of roasted grain, dark fruit, and toasted wood.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It pours with a dense, persistent dark tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass. The high viscosity and alcohol content are evidenced by slow-moving legs.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and black licorice. Distinctive esters of ripe apricot and dried plum emerge, supported by a spirituous apricot brandy character and subtle oaky vanilla. Very low earthy hop notes are present.

Taste. An initial impression of rich, velvety sweetness and creamy milk chocolate is quickly followed by intense roasted grain and burnt malt. Flavors of dried apricot and dark cherry provide a fruity counterpoint to the oak-derived tannins. The bitterness is firm but balanced by the residual sugars and lactose. The finish is long and warming with a lingering bittersweet cocoa and brandy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, lacking any sharp or solventy edges.
