Cloudburst Brewing Kinda Wet
This American IPA celebrates the harvest with fresh Amarillo hops sourced directly from Virgil Gamache Farms. The profile is defined by a vibrant, "kinda wet" character, merging intense citrus notes of orange and grapefruit with a distinctively leafy, chlorophyll-rich freshness. The undried hops impart a resinous, almost chewy quality, backed by subtle melon and floral undertones. A clean, grainy malt base allows the intensified bitterness and grassy nuances to remain the focus. It finishes crisp and dry, showcasing the unique, pungent resin and vegetal complexity typical of a freshly kilned wet hop addition.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (7–10 SRM) with slight haze from the heavy wet hop addition. Features a medium-sized, persistent white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent Amarillo notes of tangerine, apricot, and floral honeysuckle. A distinct green, leafy, and slightly grassy character is present, supported by a low, clean, bready maltiness and a neutral fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial hop-forward impression of citrus zest and pine resin. The mid-palate introduces complex flavors of fresh-cut grass and melon, characteristic of undried hops. Bitterness is firm and assertive (approx. 50–60 IBU), balanced by a light toasted malt backbone. Finishes dry and hoppy with a lingering, resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture from the hop resins. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite. Includes a very light, integrated alcohol warmth without any harsh vegetal astringency.

Yeah, so, another harvest, another curveball. We always try to get some early picked Amarillo from Virgil Gamache Farms, and on this particular day they wrapped up picking about and hour before we could make it to the farm…so, we just grabbed a shovel and headed to the kiln, where we scooped up a couple hundred pounds off the top layer and called it a day. The moisture content was still pretty high, but it did add another unknown variable in regards to our process – Would we pick up more bitterness? Would the Amarillo throw some more interesting/different flavors? Would it still come across as chewy/leafy/cholorphylic?
